Sistah Code 1.8: I Will Make My Self-Care and Mental Health a Priority

I've noticed that lately we as women have started to factor in our mental health and self-care more. We take time to date ourselves, go to the spa or even a movie and now most of us are meditating and tapping into the real “inner peace” lifestyle. I for one have grown to love myself more because of separation, when you take time to distance yourself and give more to yourself than others you realize what’s a priority for you and what’s not.

Let’s stop and look at our day-to-day lives. We are on the go 24/7 whether it’s being at work, a mom, wife, business owner, maybe you're single and tackling the dating scene, but within that, you become caught up with the superwoman in you. We neglect the fact that if a superwoman doesn’t properly take care of herself, how can she take care of everything else?

Last year I chose to take a “MeCation” (highly recommended) to a winery for a few days. It was my time to gather myself, relax, unwind, clear my head and refocus. Now I know everyone may not like to travel alone and that’s ok, but it was the best decision I made for me during that time and something I will factor into my schedule once a year if time permits. I shared that to say make your self-care a part of your schedule, learn to unwind, and give you more of yourself.

A few ways to factor in time for yourself are on your days off, rest or watch a movie, go outside to the park and read a book, take a nice hot bath but do what makes you happy for your mental capacity. Let’s focus on how we take care of ourselves and continue to find the full value within our peace of mind, body, and soul.
